Indigo Bunting

I swear to god, this bird was posing for me.

I was out refilling one of the feeders – around 7:30pm —  and as I came back into the dogs’ fenced in area, I saw a blur of color at the bird feeder. At first I thought it was a confused hummingbird, but then I realized it was a male Indigo Bunting. I watched him for a while,  and then I went inside thinking the slider would scare him off.

It didn’t.

I grabbed my camera and went back outside. Here are some more of the shots.

Oh, he’s beautiful! He sure was showing off his colors for you! We have indigo buntings here in NC mountains! We had a family of cardinals this spring! I would watch the parents, and then the little babies go back and forth from a big pine tree in our yard to the feeder.

    I’m a total bird nerd, too! 😉

We have lots of cardinals, finches and woodpeckers. Plus a pair of Carolina Wrens that crack me up. But this was a special sighting, and I was so lucky that he hung around for pictures 🙂

So beautiful! I am living in a condo in a concrete jungle and miss my bird feeder and backyard so much! This is such a treat. Thank you for sharing!

I saw your tweet and thought about saying “pics or it didn’t happen!” but I knew better. Thanks for sharing this rare sight!
