{"id":850,"date":"2009-08-28T11:15:05","date_gmt":"2009-08-28T15:15:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/snapshotchronicles.com\/roadtrip\/?p=850"},"modified":"2009-08-28T18:12:32","modified_gmt":"2009-08-28T22:12:32","slug":"our-africa-reading-list-part-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/snapshotchronicles.com\/roadtrip\/2009\/08\/28\/our-africa-reading-list-part-one\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Africa Reading List"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While we were able to find a great deal of information about southern Africa on the Internet, as mum noted in <a href=\"https:\/\/snapshotchronicles.com\/roadtrip\/2009\/08\/22\/youre-going-to-africa-part-2-planning\/\">her post<\/a> last week, we are a family of readers so it wasn&#8217;t surprising that we started to dig for books about the area and the animals we were going to see.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s a short list of book we&#8217;ve found entertaining and useful in the planning process.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1400019281?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=snapshchroni-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=1400019281\">Fodor&#8217;s The Complete African Safari Planner, 1st Edition: With Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa &amp; Tanzania (Full-Color Gold Guides)<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=snapshchroni-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=1400019281\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/> Very useful for planning, especially the checklists in the back and the section on Victoria Falls. We started with the basic plan to visit Mashatu in Botswana, so we didn&#8217;t need all the information about the other destinations as much as you might if you were starting from a blank slate, but if you do, it&#8217;s in this book. We probably won&#8217;t bring it with us, though. Our itinerary is pretty settled and it&#8217;s extra weight we don&#8217;t need.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0762745657?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=snapshchroni-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0762745657\">Whatever You Do, Don&#8217;t Run: True Tales of a Botswana Safari Guide<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=snapshchroni-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0762745657\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/> by Peter Allison.\u00a0 A quick read and very very funny.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0385314280?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=snapshchroni-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0385314280\">When Elephants Weep: The Emotional Lives of Animals<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=snapshchroni-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0385314280\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/> by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson and Susan McCarthy.
