“Worst Gift Ever” Giveaway Winner

We have a winner in the Worst Gift Ever contest for the $100 JCPenney gift card. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories.

It was close, but John, who bought his wife a manure spreader for Mother’s Day, just edged out Jean, whose husband gave her a faucet for their anniversary while she gifted him with a weekend spa package. I have some HP Photo Books on hand from a previous project so two are on their way to Jean as second prize.

John says he’s learned his lesson and plans to give the gift card directly to his wife. Good call John!

Great scene with Lee and Roslin. Echoes of Season 1 when “Captain Apollo” was her military adviser. In fact I’ve noticed a lot of things are “happening again.” Next week being no exception with the return of Ellen Tigh from the dead.

Update 2-12: Looks like SciFi has pulled the Lee/Roslin clip down. Here’s a transcript, thanks to The Patriot Resource (warning: link goes to a spoiler page)

On Colonial One, Roslin tells Lee, “That’s a very excellent observation and that I think that you should keep it in mind when you are assembling new representatives.” Lee is a bit surprised, “When I assemble the new representatives?” Roslin continues, “I will of course remain by title as President, but…” Lee responds, “Madame President, you can do a lot more than that.” Roslin answers, “No, I can’t, Lee. It’s time that I let someone else do the heavy lifting.” Lee is speechless. Roslin takes off her glasses. Lee says, “I don’t know what to say… I would be honored if you think I’m the right one.” Roslin smiles and then says, “You are the right one, Lee. You have always been the right one. My only concern about you is you’re so hell-bent on doing the right thing that you sometimes don’t do the smart thing.” Lee responds, “I’ll try and be smarter… and wronger.” That brings a bit of a laugh from Roslin.

SciFi and Fantasy Lovers Friday

The movie Coraline based on the Neil Gaiman book opens today. Here’s a trailer (spotted on Gaiman’s blog) featuring the author discussing fear of buttons. You’ll never look at a rag doll the same way again.





Trailer for the next season of Torchwood was released yesterday. I must admit, I sort of lost the plot toward the end of the last season. Got busy, got behind in watching and finally just gave up on the last fews eps. From the looks of this trailer though I might just give it a go again.




Need a laugh? Mosey on over to this post by actress Felicia Day on the phenomenon of hardy highland swains in romance novels. Do yourself a favor though. Put down the hot drinks and dangerous objects while reading or you might hurt yourself.

What we’re watching
For the first time in a long time, there are quite a few television shows that I like, and more down the pike that look good. Bones , Fringe, The Mentalist and Burn Notice were back in January, although Bones has been a tad weird, and not in a good way. Chuck and Life both returned this week with strong episodes, and of course there’s Battlestar Galactica. Blood on the Scales is the episode tonight, and it looks good. Very good.





Shows we’re looking forward to include Dollhouse, the new series from Joss Whedon with Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett, and Castle, starring Nathan Fillion. Dollhouse premieres next Friday February 13th on Fox, Castle on March 9th on ABC.
